Importance of Regular Eye Check-Ups

We often hear of people that “have never been to an eye doctor,” and while it is exciting they can see without intervention, they may be neglecting a problem they aren’t aware of! Regardless of a person’s age or health, regular eye check-ups can help detect problems with their eyes, hopefully during the earliest stages when they are most treatable.

What Can I Expect?

During your regular eye exam, Dr. Al-Ghoul will not only determine the prescription you need for eyeglasses and contact lenses, but will also examine your eyes for common eye conditions, functionality and indicators of your overall health.

Who Needs Regular Eye Check-Ups?

Regular eye examinations are extremely important for patients of any age. Adults should receive regular eye check-ups to ensure their prescriptions for eyeglasses and contacts are current, evaluate for any signs of eye diseases/conditions, and to help monitor any health conditions that may affect the eyes.

Eye examinations for children are also very important. Research has shown that vision in children can be closely linked with the learning process. Children with impaired vision may have issues seeing and/or interpreting classroom lessons and may develop issues with schoolwork. Often, children are not aware of any vision issues or will not mention that they are having difficulty seeing, making it hard to diagnose without a professional eye examination.

Another reason eye examinations are important for both adults and children in this day and age is the increased use of digital display devices. Not only do adults spend more time on computers and handheld devices, our children are also using them more often and starting at an earlier age than ever before. This can be visually demanding for both children and adults, increasing the risk of vision problems.
